On Saturday 27 July our visiting ships leave Mariehamn with a grand Parade of Sails!
The first ship leaves the dock at 15.30 and an hour and a half later at 17 the last one, Dar Mlodziezy, will be on its way out towards the sea. The start line for the final race is out at sea, a bit further south of Mariehamn.
There will be a lot of people on the move both on land and at sea. Of course, it should also be that way, but it is important to respect each other and safety. That was the spirit of the press conference organized by the police, the border guard and the rescue service to advise the public before the Tall Ships Race’s final day in Mariehamn.
On land
Equip yourself with time and patience in traffic and remember that the parking rules apply regardless of where you choose to leave the car. Do not block another car or anyone’s driveway. Also, don’t forget that emergency vehicles need a lane of at least three meters to get to in the event of an accident.
Several schools have given permission for event visitors to use their parking lots. The parking spaces are marked with icons on the map, you can find it on the Event area page.
A place to look at the ships is at the Korrvik harbour and fishing port. Another is along the beautiful Strandpromenaden (a walkway along the shore of about 2 km long, from the ferry terminal to the fishing port).

At sea
The border guard wants to see the same consideration and caution from those who travel at sea.
- A speed of 3-5 knots applies within the entire harbor area. Also further out you must be considerate to other ships and vessels.
- Keep in mind that smaller boats might get into trouble from your boat’s waves, while the big ships need room to manoeuvre.
- Also think about whether your boat actually is seaworthy, winds can blow up to 10 m/s during this day.
- Equip the boat with a bail, wear the life jacket and learn the rules for giving way to other vessels at sea.
With that, both the authorities and the organizers of the event,
we wish everyone a warm welcome to the Tall Ships Races Sail Parade!
